Slide Rock: Everything You Need To Know For Your Visit
Slide Rock is one of our favorite local adventures in the summertime. When the days are long and the Arizona sun is shining, there’s no better way to cool off than a trip to this natural waterslide in the shade of Oak Creek Canyon.
About Slide Rock
Located just 20 minutes from Sedona, Slide Rock State Park is a historic apple farm turned recreation area. It’s been named one of the country’s Top 10 Swimming Holes and is one of Sedona’s most popular summer destinations. There’s nothing quite like soaking in a natural creek, surrounded by the towering beauty of Sedona’s red rock cliffs.
The park gets its name from an 80-foot stretch of slippery, algae-covered sandstone that acts as a natural waterslide, ending in a refreshing cold pool. In total, about half a mile of Oak Creek runs through the park, offering multiple spots to swim, wade, fish, or simply relax.
Near the main parking area, you’ll also find 15 picnic tables nestled in a grassy meadow where you can enjoy a packed lunch.
Trails Within the Park
- Pendley Homestead Trail (.25 miles): A historic walk through the original Pendley apple orchards, homestead house, and early tourist cabins.
- Clifftop Nature Trail (.25 miles): A short scenic walk offering beautiful views of the Slide Rock swimming area.
Where to Park
Parking is limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis, so early arrival is key—especially in summer. The park opens daily at 8:00 a.m.
What to Bring
- Plenty of drinking water in reusable or plastic containers (glass is strictly prohibited).
- Water shoes to help navigate the slippery, algae-covered rocks.
- Swimwear and sun protection— sunscreen, hats, and towels.
- Reminder: There is no lifeguard on duty. Swim with caution!
Pets are not permitted at Slide Rock from now through September 30th. We love our furry friends at Mountain Modern Sedona, but they’ll need to sit this one out until October rolls around!
