Spotlight On: Hot Air Ballooning In Sedona

Hot air ballooning in Sedona is a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Soar high above the landscape and take in gorgeous views of the red rocks from a new perspective. As the sun rises, the golden morning light transforms the landscape into a Sedona you have never seen before.

Why We Love it

Sedona has endless outdoor activities — from Jeep tours and mountain biking to horseback riding through the canyons. But hot air ballooning offers a truly peaceful and unique experience. Floating gently above the mesas, you’ll watch the balloon inflate, experience the careful lift-off, and glide effortlessly across the horizon.  Along the way, you’ll see wildlife, iconic geological formations, and vast panoramic views. Many pilots often impart fascinating knowledge about the region and its natural history during the ride. To top it off, some experiences conclude with a celebratory post-flight toast, a traditional ritual following a hot air balloon flight.

When to Go

Flights take place at sunrise, when the winds are calm and the desert rocks are aglow. Mornings can start off cool and quickly warm up, so dress in layers for comfort throughout the experience.

How to Join the Fun

Book early! Spots fill up quickly, especially during peak seasons. Wear comfortable, protective shoes and layered clothing, and don’t forget your camera to capture the magical sunrise.

Sedona has several companies that offer hot air balloon flights:

  • Red Rock Balloons is a trusted local Sedona guide. The full experience lasts four hours, including 1 to 1.5 hours in the air. After your flight, you’ll be greeted by a chase crew and a commemorative celebratory toast.
  • Northern Light Balloon Expeditions is Sedona’s original hot air balloon company. A small family business since 1964, they have the longest flying record of any balloon company in Arizona. Your sunrise flight will conclude with a champagne toast, a perfect ending to an unforgettable morning.

Who Should Go?
