This is part of the City of Sedona’s bi-annual Red Dirt Concert Series Shows are from 5 to 8 p.m. Shows feature at least two acts. \nFriday\, September 5th\nSplit Billing Show featuring Arvel Bird and Juniper Djinn\nArvel Bird’s “Celtic Indian” brand is a reflection of his mixed-blood American Indian and Celtic heritages — With his violin\, fiddle\, Native flutes and Irish whistles\, Arvel weaves a powerful tapestry of music and stories. From music festivals to concert halls\, audiences get a glimpse into his Native American heart and Scottish soul. Classically trained as a violinist\, Arvel Bird’s compositions and performances are a confluence of styles informed by his extraordinary love of diversity—from traditional Celtic tunes and bluegrass standards to his original Native American folk and Celtic rock orchestrations. \nJuniper Djinn weaves clarinet dreamscapes amongst a sea of melodious waltzes\, the billowing sounds of early American jazz\, gypsy jazz\, and Balkan folk music. The duos originals reflect a familiar feeling of 30s & 40s nostalgia and timeless tunes ingrained deep within traditional American and European jazz. The duo is best known for their live performances in which they play an array of genres spanning across decades of time and regularly features other musicians from across the globe. \nFriday\, September 12th\nSolo Performer Showcase featuring Jake Williams\, Alice Luke and Rob MacMullan\nJake Williams is a Phoenix-based instrumental guitarist\, performing original compositions that are dynamic and range from lively to introspective. His music features modern guitar techniques such as alternate tunings\, tapping\, percussive elements and live looping. Jake’s music has been featured in a Lifetime film and various commercials\, and he’s performed at renowned venues such as the Musical Instrument Museum. \nAlice Luke is a singer-songwriter\, guitarist\, pianist and developing bassist with a love for the poetic lyricism of folk and the intriguing instrumentals of modern pop-rock. Her songs showcase a lyrical reflection on the fluctuations of youth and a sonic expression of optimism and curiosity in the experience of watching words form and life unfold. Since early childhood\, she has gathered inspiration from some of her favorite artists including Jack Johnson\, Taylor Swift\, and the Grateful Dead. From 2020 to 2024\, she studied songwriting at the Thornton School of Music at USC\, where she began performing in neighborhood concerts and campus events\, inspiring a love for performance within a both stripped-down\, solo acoustic style and in full band arrangements. Her second single\, “Hurricane\,” was released in August 2024\, with more upcoming in Spring 2025. \nRob MacMullan is a singer\, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Sedona\, AZ. Musical influences range from Classic Rock\, 80s pop\, and 90s indie to the American Songbook and musical theater. Running through it all is his strong and soothing voice. Whether he’s playing guitar or piano\, Rob’s live performances unfold like a trip down memory lane\, visiting with old friends including James Taylor\, Sting\, and Billy Joel\, and a few stops with more recent acquaintances such as Ed Sheeran and Adele. There’s even space for requests\, which often lead to sing-alongs. “Music is a chance to connect with each other and ourselves\, and I always try to extend that invitation to the audience through my songs and performances\,” he says. Rob performs regularly around Sedona and the Verde Valley. \nFriday\, September 19th\nGriffin Gregory with opener Wild Mountain Mystics\nGriffin Gregory is made up of PK Gregory and Stephy Leigh Griffin\, both well-known singer/songwriters and long-time fixtures of the Northern Arizona music scene\, PK in Verde Valley and Steph in Prescott. Having had a mutual admiration of each other’s songwriting and musicianship for 12 years or so\, it was only a matter of time before they joined forces. While both artists would probably be filed under “Americana” down at the local record store\, their stylistic similarities are rivaled only by their differences\, resulting in a sonic style that is less Simon and Garfunkel and more a kind of country-blues White Stripes\, bringing elements of spaghetti folk\, jazz swing\, and fingerstyle blues together with a honky-stomp aesthetic that will burn your barn down with a smile on it’s face\, and then rebuild it with better wood. As a trio\, Griffin/Gregory brings in the talented cellist/vocalist Courtney Yeates\, also a well-known musician in the NoAZ scene. This combo offers rich opportunities for 3-part vocal harmonies in addition to Courtney’s cello\, Steph’s guitar and trumpet\, and PK’s guitar/bass\, harmonica\, and foot percussion. It’s a lot of power in a small package! \nWild Mountain Mystics are Appalachia meets Woodstock. Guitar\, mandolin\, and vocals. Since 2013 Wild Mountain Mystics have been a sought-after presence on the Cailfornia roots music scene. Their audience includes skilled instrumentalists\, hipsters\, and enthusiastic music lovers\, both young and old\, across the generational divide. Their audiences are collectively charmed by the joyful spirit and the remarkable diversity of their music. Classically trained as a violinist\, Arvel Bird’s compositions and performances are a confluence of styles informed by his extraordinary love of diversity—from traditional Celtic tunes and bluegrass standards to his original Native American folk and Celtic rock orchestrations. \nJuniper Djinn weaves clarinet dreamscapes amongst a sea of melodious waltzes\, the billowing sounds of early American jazz\, gypsy jazz\, and Balkan folk music. The duos originals reflect a familiar feeling of 30s & 40s nostalgia and timeless tunes ingrained deep within traditional American and European jazz. The duo is best known for their live performances in which they play an array of genres spanning across decades of time and regularly features other musicians from across the globe. \nFriday\, September 12th\nSolo Performer Showcase featuring Jake Williams\, Alice Luke and Rob MacMullan\nJake Williams is a Phoenix-based instrumental guitarist\, performing original compositions that are dynamic and range from lively to introspective. His music features modern guitar techniques such as alternate tunings\, tapping\, percussive elements and live looping. Jake’s music has been featured in a Lifetime film and various commercials\, and he’s performed at renowned venues such as the Musical Instrument Museum. \nAlice Luke is a singer-songwriter\, guitarist\, pianist and developing bassist with a love for the poetic lyricism of folk and the intriguing instrumentals of modern pop-rock. Her songs showcase a lyrical reflection on the fluctuations of youth and a sonic expression of optimism and curiosity in the experience of watching words form and life unfold. Since early childhood\, she has gathered inspiration from some of her favorite artists including Jack Johnson\, Taylor Swift\, and the Grateful Dead. From 2020 to 2024\, she studied songwriting at the Thornton School of Music at USC\, where she began performing in neighborhood concerts and campus events\, inspiring a love for performance within a both stripped-down\, solo acoustic style and in full band arrangements. Her second single\, “Hurricane\,” was released in August 2024\, with more upcoming in Spring 2025. \nRob MacMullan is a singer\, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Sedona\, AZ. Musical influences range from Classic Rock\, 80s pop\, and 90s indie to the American Songbook and musical theater. Running through it all is his strong and soothing voice. Whether he’s playing guitar or piano\, Rob’s live performances unfold like a trip down memory lane\, visiting with old friends including James Taylor\, Sting\, and Billy Joel\, and a few stops with more recent acquaintances such as Ed Sheeran and Adele. There’s even space for requests\, which often lead to sing-alongs. “Music is a chance to connect with each other and ourselves\, and I always try to extend that invitation to the audience through my songs and performances\,” he says. Rob performs regularly around Sedona and the Verde Valley. \nFriday\, September 19th\nGriffin Gregory with opener Wild Mountain Mystics\nGriffin Gregory is made up of PK Gregory and Stephy Leigh Griffin\, both well-known singer/songwriters and long-time fixtures of the Northern Arizona music scene\, PK in Verde Valley and Steph in Prescott. Having had a mutual admiration of each other’s songwriting and musicianship for 12 years or so\, it was only a matter of time before they joined forces. While both artists would probably be filed under “Americana” down at the local record store\, their stylistic similarities are rivaled only by their differences\, resulting in a sonic style that is less Simon and Garfunkel and more a kind of country-blues White Stripes\, bringing elements of spaghetti folk\, jazz swing\, and fingerstyle blues together with a honky-stomp aesthetic that will burn your barn down with a smile on it’s face\, and then rebuild it with better wood. As a trio\, Griffin/Gregory brings in the talented cellist/vocalist Courtney Yeates\, also a well-known musician in the NoAZ scene. This combo offers rich opportunities for 3-part vocal harmonies in addition to Courtney’s cello\, Steph’s guitar and trumpet\, and PK’s guitar/bass\, harmonica\, and foot percussion. It’s a lot of power in a small package! \nWild Mountain Mystics are Appalachia meets Woodstock. Guitar\, mandolin\, and vocals. Since 2013 Wild Mountain Mystics have been a sought-after presence on the Cailfornia roots music scene. Their audience includes skilled instrumentalists\, hipsters\, and enthusiastic music lovers\, both young and old\, across the generational divide. Their audiences are collectively charmed by the joyful spirit and the remarkable diversity of their music.
